We were pretty excited at Les Belles Bouclettes when it first became possible to add goat’s milk to our soap. While the soap we had previously offered for sale was a high-quality hand-made product there are so many reasons why a soap made with goat’s milk is an improved bathing experience and, wel, special!
Now each small, hand-made batch of our soap is created using unprocessed farm fresh goat’s milk. While the tradition of using milk in bathing rituals extends back centuries to the days of Cleopatra, modern research has shown that milk does contain many beneficial components to help keep our skin moisturized and healthy. Goat’s milk is one of the best recognized milks in the cosmetic industry, and for good reason. It is gentle and effective, assisting those with skin problems such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. It also helps those with healthy skin to keep their lucky skin happy and looking gorgeous!
Goat’s milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids, in particular lactic acid. These acids assist in the gentle removal of dead skin cells from your skin’s surface leaving new cells on the surface; cells that look smoother, and younger. The alpha-hydroxy is especially good at breaking down the bonds that hold the dead skin cells together. Removing these dead skin cells helps many skin conditions by lessening irritation.
Goat’s milk is rich in many vitamins. It is especially high in Vitamin A which is necessary to repair damaged skin tissue and maintain healthy skin.
Hand-made soap is generally more moisturizing and gentler to skin then similar commercial products . However, goat’s milk, thanks to its high cream (fat)
content adds richness and moisturizing capabilities to even hand-made soap. The lather is extra creamy and smooth. Skin feels soft and clean but not dry when it has been washed using soap made with goat’s milk. And keeping skin naturally moisturized helps to keep skin healthy. In addition, goat’s milk contains important minerals for the skin such as selenium. Scientists believe that selenium has an important role in preventing skin cancer. Selenium can also help prevent damage to the skin from excessive time in the sun.
